Local Area:

Josselin
This town is built on the banks of the River Oust and was the home of the Dukes of Rohan. The magnificent castle was started by Jean II of Rohan in the late 15th Century. The castle is spectacular to view from the tow path and the gardens. The town with its half timbered buildings is centred around the Basilica of Our Lady of the Brambles whose tower may be climbed giving views over the town and the countryside beyond. Josselin is home to the doll museum. It is also an up and coming place for artists and has many exhibits in the summer months.

The Saturday market is very popular in the warmer months and there are plenty of cafes to sit and watch the world go past.

Pontivy
Pontivy is made up of two towns wrapped around each other : the medieval old town with its half timbered houses and the geometric Napoleonic town. Twice in its history Pontivy has been know as Napoleonville (the town of Napoleon). The town is situated in a very rural part of Brittany know as the Valley of the Blavet and the River Blavet runs through the town. The Nantes-Brest canal also runs through Pontivy. The town boasts a magnificent 15th Century castle.Shops and cafes line the main street and the small cobbled side streets.Every summer you can discover the chapels of architectural and historical interest round and about Pontivy by following the art trail of L' Art des Chapelles, which have different routes marked by colour.

Vannes
This ancient Breton capital is among the prettiest and most interesting of Brittany's towns. It is a beautifully preserved medieval town built around a thriving port. Shuttered townhouses overlook the canal which joins Vannes to the Golf du Morbihan. The old quarter around the cathedral of St Pierre has been carefully preserved and pedestrianised. All the streets are lined with timber framed houses. It is still possible to walk on the ramparts above what used to be a moat.

Auray
This is a town with cobbled streets and leaning half-timbered houses. The old streets are lined with fashionable shops and cafes. The town rises above a loop in the river and is spanned by a medieval stone bridge and a railway viaduct. The town attracts swarms of artists and there are often outdoor exhibitions. You really must not miss the colourful outdoor market which takes over the town every Monday with traders lining every street.

These are just a few examples of places to visit; we have much more information and maps at all the gites including walking and cycle routes.

The Village of Paul-Fetan, Quistinic.
This is a whole village set up to represent Breton life in the past. It shows various aspects of Breton life inside and out, with a programme of events every afternoon where visitors can participate. They have old Breton breeds, bread making, milking and small plays to watch.

the summer months it is possible to have a ride on a military vehicle.

Parc de Prehistoire, La Croix Neuve, Malansac
This has always been a favourite with our children and their friends. There are life size replicas of all of your favourite dinosaurs including Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops. Also scenes of cavemen in daily life. It is set in an old slate quarry and makes for a very pleasant walk.

Parc de Sculptures, Domaine de Kerguehennec
Set in an large botanical park and lake. You can meander along paths that take you to the chateau built in 1710 whilst taking in the sculptures. In the chateau you can take in the many and varied art exhibitions.
